Electromagnetic field theory is often the least popular course in the electrical engineering curriculum. Heavy reli ance on vector and integral calculus can obscure physical phenomena so that the student becomes bogged down in the mathematics and loses sight of the applications. 13.4 Plane Electromagnetic Waves To examine the properties of the electromagnetic waves, let's consider for simplicity an electromagnetic wave propagating in the +x-direction, with the electric field E G pointing in the +y-direction and the magnetic field B G in the +z-direction, as shown in Figure 13.4.1 below.
